Afra Ellen is from a poor background. Her mother is a chop bar operator. Her father is a tailor at Ntunkumso, a suburb in Ashanti Effiduasi in the Ashanti Region.

She started singing at church when she was 4 years. She attends Christ Apostolic Church (C.A.C) at Ntunkumso.
